So apparently Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele isn’t too happy with Rush “I want Barack Obama to fail” Limbaugh and his speech to the Conservative Political Action Conference this past weekend.
In reaction to Limbaugh’s tirade, Steele told CNN’s D.L. Hughley yesterday that he thought Limbaugh was an “entertainer… his whole thing is entertainment,” and his show is “incendiary” and “ugly.”
Mr. Limbaugh was none too happy as reported by Greg Sargent of The Plum Line. Sargent says Limbaugh targeted Steele on his radio show today by asking:
Why are you running the Republican Party? Why do you claim you lead the Republican Party when you seem obsessed with seeing to it that President Obama succeeds? I frankly am stunned that the chairman of the Republican National Committee endorses such an agenda…
If we don’t want Obama and Reid and Pelosi to fail, then why does the RNC exist, Mr. Steele? Why are you even raising money?
Sargent has the full transcript of Limbaugh’s show here. He also reported that for his part, Michael Steele is refusing to back down. (Mr. Steele, please hold for Congressman Gingrey.)
While I understand that President Obama’s White House is trying to pin down Republicans to see who’s side they are on, Steele or Limbaugh, I don’t expect anyone to answer. (Furthermore, I frankly think this is some kind of sick good cop, bad cop routine.) But perhaps as my as my Twitter friend Jarais suggested, Limbaugh and Steele should have a walkoff to settle their dispute. He suggested this version:
But I think this kind of walkoff is a better fit. What about you?
