McDonnell on Huckabee and Fake Virginia

All three Democratic candidates for Governor in Virginia, as well as the chairman of the Democratic Party of Virginia, condemned the divisive remarks made by former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee on McDonnell’s behalf at a campaign appearance in Tazewell County.

But from McDonnell himself? Silence. Instead he had his spokeman address the controversy.

According to the Washington Post:

McDonnell spokesman Tucker Martin acknowledged that “former Arkansas Governor Huckabee made some comments that do not reflect how integrated Virginia’s economy is” but “the only name on the Virginia ballot this fall on the Republican side is Bob McDonnell, and only he speaks for this campaign.”

In a separate report from NotLarrySabato, Martin went on to insult the people of Tazewell County, too.

Not surprisingly, Fake Va. GOP Congressman Frank Wolf also came to McDonnell’s defense, but not to the defense of his constituents, telling the Post:

Bob McDonnell was raised in Fairfax County. He understands Northern Virginia and the issues we face because this is where he is from, and where his family is from. He knows this area better than any other candidate running for governor. Bob McDonnell will be a great governor for all of Virginia.

Of course Wolf stopped short of denouncing Huckabee’s remarks. Perhaps he  recognized that the voters can only take so much. Later in the afternoon, CNN reported that Wolf has requested 4 earmarks worth $92 million.

But are we going to hear an apology from former Gov. Huckabee? After all, he IS an ordained Baptist minister. I know he believes in the power of forgiveness.

I’m not holding my breath. Rev. Huckabee has already invoked the Lord’s name on behalf of McDonnell. If you’re self-righteous enough to believe God is on your side in American politics, you don’t feel the need to apologize for anything you say on behalf of your candidate.

Besides, he has moved on to Iowa politics, where he chose to condemn a state Supreme Court ruling today striking down a law prohibiting same-sex marriage.

  • Good work :-D

  • [...] It was clear that Huckabee was joking about what Republicans should do on Election Day. But Huckabee was certainly more serious in his effort to drive a wedge between the voters of Tazewell and Northern Virginia. (That was no joke.) [...]
