Remember Ashley Todd, the McCain volunteer who claimed that she was mugged at an ATM by a Obama supporter? Today Ms. Todd admitted she made the whole thing up.
Jay Bookman of the Atlanta Journal Constitution talks about the race-baiting of the McCain supporters who pushed the story to media. I use the words “race-baiting” because Ms. Todd who is white, claimed a black man had carved the letter B into her cheek and hit her when she found out she was a McCain supporter.
The McCain campaign denies ever pushing the story to media, but reporters in Pa. say otherwise.
And finally, consider what Fox News VP John Moody wrote before Ms. Todd confessed to the hoax:
This incident could become a watershed event in the 11 days before the election.
If Ms. Todd’s allegations are proven accurate, some voters may revisit their support for Senator Obama, not because they are racists (with due respect to Rep. John Murtha), but because they suddenly feel they do not know enough about the Democratic nominee.
If the incident turns out to be a hoax, Senator McCain’s quest for the presidency is over, forever linked to race-baiting.
For Pittsburgh, a city that has done so much to shape American history over the centuries, another moment of truth is at hand.
Well, sadly, this appears yet ANOTHER effort by the McCain campaign to divide us as a country, in the most disgusting way.
Perhaps Ms. Todd should have used Gov. Palin’s make up artist.
