It’s bad enough that conservatives are calling for the ouster of RNC Chairman Michael Steele. Now Virginia’s GOP Congressmen are calling for the ouster of Prince William County Delegate Jeff Frederick as chairman of the Republican Party of Virginia.
That’s just terrible! As a Virginia Democrat, I believe both Steele and Frederick provide the keys to victory — for Democrats in Virginia and in Steele’s case, Democrats across the country.
Last Thursday, the five Congressmen, Randy Forbes, Frank Wolf, Rob Wittman, Bob Goodlatte and Eric Cantor sent a letter to Jeff Frederick calling for his resignation. According to the Associated Press, the letter read in part:
With November’s elections rapidly approaching, it is essential that our party be unified as we work to regain control of the governor’s mansion and retain control of the House of Delegates. No one will benefit from a protracted battle over the leadership of RPV. It is in that spirit that we ask you to step down.
The GOP Congressmen aren’t the only ones calling for Frederick to resign. So are 58 out of 77 members of the central committee of the RPV, all six members of the state Senate’s GOP leadership, the editorial pages of the Richmond Times-Dispatch, The Fredericksburg (Va.) Free Lance-Star, oh and the Republican nominee for governor, Bob McDonnell.
Fortunately for Virginia Democrats, Frederick is fighting back! And he kind of , sort of has the support of the GOP Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling and state Sen. Ken Cuccinelli, who is running for Attorney General.
Personally, I think these GOP elected officials should leave Jeff Frederick alone! Maybe Amy Frederick, Jeff’s wife and possible replacement in the House of Delegates, should cut a video like this one. (It might help!)
