Senators Webb and Warner Working Hard for Creigh Deeds

One of the reasons why Virginians are going to elect State Senator Creigh Deeds their Governor this fall is that they trust their centrist U.S. Senators Jim Webb and Mark Warner. Both men have committed to help make Sen. Deeds Virginia’s next governor. Sen Warner is organizing the business community for Deeds, while Sen. Webb is organizing veterans for Deeds.

I expect that both Senators, along with Governor Tim Kaine, will cut endorsement ads for Deeds that should run in September and October when voters really begin to focus on the election.

Meanwhile, if you want an idea of what Sen. Deeds needs to do this summer and this fall in order to win, check out Sen. Warner’s political analysis of the Virginia electorate from last summer when he was running for his Senate seat. Warner’s advice for then-candidate Barack Obama was spot on then and makes perfect sense for Sen. Deeds, too.

These counties and cities were mostly carried by Gov. Tim Kaine, Sen. Jim Webb and Sen. Mark Warner in 2005, 2006 and 2008, respectively. (The Post called them, “purple question marks”.) It was a thoughtful article and worth a re-read as we look to the fall with Sen. Creigh Deeds, Jody Wagner and Del. Steve Shannon on the ballot as our Democratic nominees. Continue reading

No on Lieberman, No on Stevens

Dear Sen. Warner and Sen. Webb:

I used to live in the District of Columbia but as Nancy Pfotenhauer pointed out, lots of Democrats like me have been streaming across the Potomac River to establish residence in the Commonwealth.

Perhaps you picked up on that when you reviewed the results of the Nov. 4 election. Your consituents voted overwhelmingly for change. We elected your colleague Barack Obama as our president and we elected three new Democrats to represent us in the House of Representatives and we elected our beloved former Governor Mark Warner to speak up for us where you both work — in the Senate.

It’s a new day.

Tomorrow, you both have a vote and you’ve been strangely silent. Continue reading

Sen. Webb on Sen. Obama’s Support for Gun Rights

In this video filmed in Wytheville, Va., Sen. Webb wants to be perfectly clear. If anyone tells you that Barack Obama wants to take away your gun, they’re lying to you.
